We are looking for Senior Backend Engineers to join our office in Berlin!
In your role as a Senior Backend Engineer, your mission will be to change the future of language learning while working in a flexible and stimulating environment. Working together with motivated colleagues, you will be collaborating and diving into different disciplines to broaden your knowledge in other fields of expertise as well as share your own.
We are at the heart of Babbel, developing the learning content architecture and the tools our editors use to create our learning experiences! Topics include event-driven microservice architecture, content modeling, graph databases, and CMS integration. Primary stack: JavaScript (some TypeScript) &amp; Ruby.
You will:

<li>Work closely with our learning content editors to make their vision a reality</li>
<li>Provide both insight and wisdom from your unique perspective and background</li>
<li>Contribute to our culture of testing, learning, and innovating</li>
</ul>
You have:
<ul>
<li>Experience in building backend applications with JavaScript and / or Ruby</li>
<li>Strong sense for good api design</li>
<li>Openness to learn new things and reach outside your comfort zone</li>
<li>Extensive testing experience</li>
<li>Experience tracking system health and performance</li>
<li>A product-oriented mindset</li>
<li>A strong sense of ownership of your work</li>
<li>A can-do attitude to build and iterate on features</li>
<li>Good communication and interpersonal skills</li>
<li>Fluency in written and spoken English</li>
</ul>
Nice to have:
<ul>
<li>Experience with graph databases (e.g., Neptune, Gremlin)</li>
<li>Experience with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform)</li>
<li>Experience with event-driven, distributed architecture</li>
<li>Experience with AWS services (e.g., Lambda, Kinesis)</li>
</ul>
