Do you want to create a resume or have you already created one and want to check if you have thought of everything? Then you've come to the right place!

In Germany, the resume is the most important part of the application for many companies/personnel managers and is usually read first. Together with the cover letter, it decides whether you are considered suitable for the position and are invited to an interview. It is therefore all the more important that your resume is clear, complete and clearly structured.

#### General

**General rules** you should follow when writing:

* Resume length: 1-2 pages (depending on previous experience).
* Form: Bullet points, no body text (fully written paragraphs will be found in the cover letter).
* Chronological sequence of dates: Anti-chronological (current professional/academic situation/activity first).
	* 1st experience 3 - Jan 2021 - present.
 * 2nd experience 2 - Apr 2018 - Nov 2020
	* 3rd experience 1 - Feb 2017 - Mar 2018.
* The longer a job or experience has been, the less detail you should write about it
* Self-introductions in cohesive text are not common in resumes and belong in the cover letter
* If the job ad asks for your salary expectations, you can include those in your cover letter as well
* Formatting and phrasing: 
	* Pay attention to your spelling and grammar mistakes! (especially in coherent texts like the cover letter).
	* Use the same layout for both the resume and the cover letter.
	* Choose a clear design: use a single font, two font sizes for headings and subheadings, and one or two selected colors (if you google resume examples, you will find many helpful design ideas).
	* Avoid abbreviations
* If you are able, write your resume in German and have it proofread by a native speaker. 
* When stating your academic/professional experience as well as your grades, never forget one thing: always be honest! 
It is easy for a recruiter or a company to find out if your information is true or not.

#### Personal Data

You should list this information here:
* Photo (optional)
* First and last name
* Date of birth
* Address
* E-mail address
* Phone number
* Link to LinkedIn profile (if available)

About the photo: it is up to you whether you add a photo to your resume, however it is usually considered more likeable if one is present. Make sure that it is a professional picture with good quality.

You do not need to include information about your marital status, religion or nationality. 

#### Professional experience

Generally speaking:

* Always start with the most recent work experience and go back from there to the oldest/first experience.
* Use month/year to indicate time periods, e.g. 04/2021 - 02/2022.
* For each experience, add the length of employment, job title, company name, and address of the company
* For each experience, add in bullet points your task, e.g. Several projects successfully completed as a member of project teams
* Use a maximum of 3 - 5 bullet points per experience.

#### Education

* **If you are currently still a pupil, student, apprentice or a recent graduate:**
Only the education part is mostly relevant for you in the resume, the work experience part is omitted, as you probably have no or limited work experience so far.
All the more your academic success should be highlighted here and placed in the first place
* **If you have already successfully completed your studies/training for a few years:**
The section on training should be placed below the work experience. You have enough work experience by now and can show that you don't have to rely on your education.

Again, here are some **tips** on how to build your academic experience:

* Dates are built anti-chronologically, with the most recent education first.
* Name and address of school/vocational college/college/university.
* period of attendance at the institution as well as (expected ) graduation date
* Course of study as well as field of study
* Academic degrees/awards and relevant coursework.
* Relevant extracurricular activities, study abroad programs and awards.

#### Skills and interest

A section about your knowledge/skills and interests makes it easier for a recruiter to figure out if you have specific skills relevant to the job.

You can also highlight your knowledge in different areas here: 

* **Hard Skills**, such as technical skills/software skills (programming languages, technical tools, etc.).
* **Soft Skills**, such as teamwork, communication, creativity
* **Language skills** with indication of language level, 
e.g. German - native language, English - fluent or 
with indication of certificates, English - native speaker, German - B1
* **Interests**, such as sports activities or hobbies
* **Honorary activities** (if any)
* **Awards/certificates, scholarships, networks and associations**.
* **Publication list** (for researchers; in this case it is fine to add an additional page to the CV).

#### Allgemeines

**Allgemeine Regeln** die du beim Schreiben beachten solltest:

* Länge des Lebenslaufs: 1-2 Seiten (in Abhängigkeit der bisherigen Erfahrungen)
* Form: Aufzählungspunkte, keine Fließtexte (vollständig geschriebene Absätze finden sich im Anschreiben wieder)
* Zeitliche Abfolge der Daten: Anti-chronologisch (aktuelle beruflische/akademische Situation/Tätigkeit zuerst)

 2. Erfahrung 2 – Apr 2018 – Nov 2020
	3. Erfahrung 1 – Feb 2017 – Mär 2018
* Je länger ein Job oder eine Erfahrung her ist, desto weniger Details solltest du dazu schreiben
* Selbstvorstellungen in zusammenhängenden Texten sind in Lebensläufen nicht üblich und gehören in das Anschreiben
* Falls in der Stellenanzeige nach deine Gehaltsvorstellungen gefragt wird, kannst du diese ebenfalls in dein Anschreiben aufnehmen
* Formatierung und Formulierungen: 
	* Achte auf deine Rechtschreib- und Grammatikfehler! (besonders bei zusammenhängenden Texten wie dem Anschreiben)
	* Nutze sowohl für den Lebenslauf als auch für das Anschreiben das gleiche Layout
	* Wähle ein übersichtliches Design: nutze hierfür eine einheitliche Schriftart, zwei Schriftgrößen für Überschriften und Unterpunkte sowie ein bis zwei ausgewählte Farben (wenn du nach Lebenslaufbeispielen googlest findest du viele hilfreiche Designideen)
	* Vermeide Abkürzungen
* Wenn du in der Lage bist dann verfasse deinen Lebenslauf in Deutsch und lasse es von einem Muttersprachler Korrektur lesen. 
* Sowohl bei der Angabe deiner akademischen/ beruflichen Erfahrungen als auch bei deinen Noten solltest du eins nie vergessen: sei immer ehrlich! 
Für einen Personaler oder ein Unternehmen ist es ein Leichtes herauszufinden, ob deine Angaben auch tatsächlich der Wahrheit entsprechen oder nicht.

Zum Foto: es ist dir überlassen, ob du ein Foto zu deinem Lebenslauf hinzufügst, jedoch wird es meist für sympathischer empfunden, wenn eins vorhanden ist. Achte dabei darauf, dass es ein professionelles Bild mit guter Qualität ist.

Informationen zu deinem Familienstand, deiner Religion oder Nationalität brauchst du hierbei nicht angeben. 

#### Berufserfahrung

Generell gilt:

* Beginne immer mit der aktuellsten Berufserfahrung und gehe von dort aus zurück bis zu der ältesten/ersten Erfahrung
* Verwende für die Angabe der Zeiträume Monat / Jahr, z.B. 04/2021 – 02/2022
* Füge für jede Erfahrung jeweils die Dauer der Beschäftigung, den Jobtitel, den Unternehmensnamen sowie die Adresse des Unternehmens hinzu
* Füge zu jeder Erfahrung in Stichpunkten deine Aufgabe hinzu, z.B. Mehrere Projekte als Mitglied in Projektteams erfolgreich abgeschlossen
* Verwende hierbei jeweils pro Erfahrung maximal 3 – 5 Stichpunkte

#### Ausbildung:

* **Falls du aktuell noch Schüler/in, Student/in, Azubi/ne bist oder frisch gebackene/r Absolvent/in:**
Nur der Teil Ausbildung ist meist relevant für dich im Lebenslauf, der Teil Berufserfahrung fällt weg, da du vermutlich bisher keine oder nur begrenzt Berufserfahrung gesammelt hast.
Umso mehr sollte hier dein akademischer Erfolg hervorgehoben werden und an erster Stelle platziert werden
* **Falls du bereits seit einigen Jahren dein Studium/deine Ausbildung erfolgreich absolviert hast:**
Der Abschnitt zur Ausbildung sollte hier unterhalb der Berufserfahrungen platziert werden. Du hast nämlich mittlerweile genug Berufserfahrung vorzuweisen und kannst somit zeigen, dass du dich nicht auf deine Ausbildung verlassen musst.

Auch hierbei gibt es einige **Tipps**, wie du deine akademischen Erfahrungen aufbauen solltest:

* Daten werden anti-chronologisch aufgebaut, die aktuellste Ausbildung steht an erster Stelle
* Name und Adresse der Schule/ des Berufskollegs / der Hochschule / der Universität
* Zeitraum des Besuches der Institution sowie (zu erwartendes ) Abschlussdatum
* Studiengang sowie Studienbereich
* Akademische Abschlüsse/Auszeichnungen und relevante Studienleistungen

#### Kenntnisse und Interessen

* Pemformatan dan susunan kata:
 * Perhatikan kesalahan ejaan dan tata bahasa Anda! (khusus untuk teks terkait seperti surat lamaran)
 * Gunakan tata letak yang sama untuk resume dan surat lamaran Anda
 * Pilih desain yang jelas: gunakan font yang seragam, dua ukuran font untuk judul dan subjudul dan satu atau dua warna yang dipilih (jika Anda mencari contoh CV di Google, Anda akan menemukan banyak ide desain yang berguna)
