Steam electrolysis using solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs) offers high efficiencies and thus presents itself as a promising technology for the hydrogen economy of the future. To improve the understanding of occurring processes in SOECs, physical models based on experimental parametrization and validation are employed. In this work you will conduct all steps of model development starting by measuring and evaluating experimental data to determine model parameters as well as implementing them into an adapted model and interpreting model results.</p><ul><li>In the scope of this Master thesis you will upgrade and operate a solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) test bench.</li><li>Furthermore, the commissioning and operation of a mass spectrometer for gas composition analysis and the operation of a test bench to obtain data for model parameterization and validation will be part of your responsibilities.</li><li>You will adapt an available FEM performance model to the experimental set up.</li><li>Last but not least the qualitative and quantitative analysis of measurement data and comparison against model predictions will be part your research.</li></ul></div></section><section><div><p></p><h2>Qualifications</h2></div><div><ul><li><strong>Education:</strong> Master studies in the field of Chemistry, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or comparable with above-average academic performance</li><li><strong>Experience and Knowledge:</strong> basic understanding of electrolysis and electrochemical processes as well as experience in collecting and evaluating measurement data</li><li><strong>Personality and Working Practice: </strong>flexible, enthusiastic, independent, committed and systematic team player</li><li><strong>Languages:</strong> fluent in German or English</li></ul></div></section><section><div><p></p><h2>Additional Information</h2></div><div><p><strong>Start:</strong> according to prior agreement<br> <strong>Duration:</strong> 6 months</p><p>Requirement for this thesis is the enrollment at university.
