Bosch is a world leader in the research and development of electric vehicle powertrain components as well as vehicle computing devices. Both, power electronics – as a key component in the electrical powertrain – and vehicle control units comprise thermally highly loaded components. The huge demands concerning costs and power density lead to immense thermal heat fluxes of the actively cooled chips. Those heat fluxes need sophisticated concepts for thermal spreading for efficiently transferring the heat to the ambient. A promising technical solution is the use of pulsating heat pipes for thermal spreading.</p><p>The aim of this thesis is the modeling of the physics of a pulsating heat pipe, its validation with experimental data, and a comprehensive numerical investigation.</p><ul><li>You study the literature with focus on modeling of multiphase flows with phase change in heat pipes.</li><li>Also, you deduce suitable test cases for quantification of numerical modeling and identify necessary improvements/limits as well as missing models.</li><li>Furthermore, you implement improved as well as new modeling approaches and apply new modeling frameworks to PHP effects.</li><li>Last but not least, you ensure that the models match modern coding and documentation standards.</li></ul></div></section><section><div><p></p><h2>Qualifications</h2></div><div><ul><li><strong>Education:</strong> excellent Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Process Engineering or similar</li><li><strong>Personality:</strong> team-oriented, dependable, reliable and organized</li><li><strong>Working Practice:</strong> systematic and independent</li><li><strong>Experience and Knowledge: </strong>experience with simulations in the field of CFD, preferred with multiphase flows, knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat, mass transfer and wetting phenomena, programming skills beneficial</li><li><strong>Languages:</strong> very good English, German as everyday language recommended</li></ul></div></section><section><div><p></p><h2>Additional Information</h2></div><div><p>You want to work part-time - we offer different part-time models or job-sharing.
